For the publishing industry, 2020’s unprecedented restrictions and challenges due to the COVID-19 global pandemic brought unexpected gains. In all, there were 751 million print books and 191 million e-books sold last year, representing an 8 percent growth in sales in 2020 compared with 2019 sales.
Sales of Print Books Rose in 2016
Unit sales of print books increased slightly (3.3 percent) last year, the third year in a row of growth, according to Publishers Weekly. Print-book sales rose by 2.8 percent in 2015 and 2.4 percent in 2014.

The old-fashioned book remains strong. Unit sales of print books have grown in the past two years, increasing by 2.8 percent in 2015 and 2.4 percent in 2014.
