Black Lawrence Press is open to unsolicited and unagented submissions from June 1-30.  In July, the publisher will accept entries for the St. Lawrence Book Award for first poetry and short-story collections.

Open Submission in June

The publisher is looking for novels, novellas, short story collections, poetry, biography and cultural studies, translations from German, and creative nonfiction.  “We seek innovative, electrifying, and thoroughly intoxicating manuscripts that ensnare themselves in our hearts and minds and won’t let go,” according to the publisher’s website.  The next open reading is in November.

Writing Competition for Unpublished Writers

The St. Lawrence Book Award is for writers who have not yet published a full-length collection of short stories or poems. The contest is open from July 1 to Aug. 31.

The winning manuscript will be published as part of the prize. The winner will also receive $1,000 in cash prize and 10 copies of the book. Prizes will be awarded on the book’s publication. Learn more about the writing competition.

Black Lawrence Press was founded in upstate New York, in the land between the Black River and St. Lawrence River, hence its name.
