BuzzFeed Seeks Writers for its Fellowship Program

Want a career writing about art and culture? BuzzFeed is offering support through its Emerging Writers Fellowship Program. You have until Oct. 1, 2016, to apply.

Four writers will be chosen to work at BuzzFeed’s New York or Los Angeles office. The annual fellowship awards $12,000 in stipend to each winner. During the four-month program, fellows will enjoy mentorship with BuzzFeed’s editorial staff and write personal essays, criticism, and cultural news that will be published on BuzzFeed.

Saeed Jones, executive editor for culture at the website, said the program is designed to give promising writers the support, mentorship, and experience they need to pursue media careers. “Ideal candidates for this program must have ambitious ideas and a proven desire to publish work that creates an impact on cultural conversations,” said Jones in a published statement. The website boasts of 200 million monthly unique visitors.

Fellowship Qualifications

The fellowship is a full-time position. You must be authorized to work in the United States to apply. Writers who are accepted will be notified in November. The fellowship will begin in the first week of January 2017.
