If you’re a new or unpublished female writer who has little opportunity to interact with established writers and publishing professionals, read on.

The WoMentoring Project is a newly created program by a group of writers who want to help fellow writers. “The mission of The WoMentoring Project is simple: to introduce successful literary women to other women writers at the beginning of their careers who would benefit from some insight, knowledge, and support. The hope is that we’ll see new, talented, and diverse female voices emerging as a result of time and guidance received from our mentors,” according to a statement on the group’s Web site.

Participating mentors include authors (fiction and nonfiction writers, poets), editors, and literary agents. The Web site doesn’t identify the organizers or founders, but most mentors are based in the U.K.

How to Apply

It’s a gift to find women who graciously give their time to support other women. If you’ve read this far, consider applying.

Application is free and simple. I, myself, have done this. Just send the following via email to: womentoringproject@gmail.com

  • Sample writing (1,000 words)
  • Statement as to why you would benefit from mentoring (500 words)
  • Full contact information

Good luck and spread the word! To learn more about the WoMentoring Project, go to: http://womentoringproject.co.uk/
